Kohei Nawa – VESSEL
VESSEL is created in collaboration with Damien Jalet, a choreographer and dancer whose aesthetic includes imagery of myths, indigenous religions, and rituals that reflect the conflict between the body and the mind. The primary concept of a “vessel” serves to represent the foundation of everything that is subsumed by life and death and the cycles of the Earth. The stage design incorporates the physical properties of gases, liquids, and solids to create a dynamic fusion between the stage and the dancers, whose bodies are constantly transforming. VESSEL was first shown at the ROHM Theatre in Kyoto in 2016, and performed again in multiple venues across Europe, Taiwan, and Australia in 2019.
