Es Devlin – The Poem Pavilion

The Poem Pavilion, an interactive structure designed for Expo 2020 in Dubai (postponed to 2021), features a breathtaking illuminated “message to space” made up of AI-generated poems to which each of the Expo’s anticipated 25 million visitors will be invited to contribute.The idea for the project draws directly on one of Stephen Hawking’s final endeavors, a global competition to create a “breakthrough message,” written by people worldwide and sent into space to represent our planet to other civilizations. The artist imagines the UK Pavilion as a place where visitors from all over the world take part in a collective global project, showcasing Britain’s expertise in AI technologies and its long literary legacy, while ultimately transcending national identities.
